Yes, it's 15 years since the Budapest stock exchange began trading again after a 42 year enforced rest by the country's 'liberators'.

It was June 21st 1990 that trading started again on the Budapesti Értéktőzsde. The Budapest stock exchange itself is 141 years old, after first opening in January of 1864. The enforced closure of the goods and bonds market came into effect in May of 1948.

Since the reopening there have been some strong periods of growth with the inevitable scary 'corrections' - 2001 being not the happiest of years, like elsewhere.

At the time of writing this the BUX has been enjoying over a week of strong growth and a bit of unexpected confidence. The market currently stands at 18850. Let's hope it has a good day for its birthday.
