Live views of Budapest

There a quite a few webcams positioned around Budapest. For the best overall view of Budapest you can't beat the one on the Gellert Hill looking over the Danube (see the first listed below). Take a look at these:

  • Budapest Webcam from Gellert Hill This is my favourite. I tune into this when I'm out of Budapest to see how the city is. It's got a live mpeg feed as well as an archive of each day in freeze frame. The archives are worth a browse, especially if you're planning a visit and you want to know what kind of conditions to expect (I'll have something on weather and climate later this week). The Chain Bridge is the one in view (Margit Bridge and island in the distance), the Castle over to the left and district 5 on the right bank. As you can see Pest (on the right) is flat, whilst Buda (one the left) is hilly.

  • Webcam Budapest Danube Corso with the Buda Castle This is a great view over the Danube from the Pest side of town onto the Castle and Castle District. Picture isn't as sharp as some, but the view is clear. You can watch the tourist ferries come and go from here. During the evening you'll see the Opera/Operetta Cruise come and go.

  • Technical University of Budapest webcam based at the
Technical University of Budapest on R bulding 3. floor. It looks out over the Danube again. The lens was in need of a polish when I looked, but it's a pretty good picture overall

  • Hungarian Webcams Here's an index of web cameras around Hungary with plenty on Budapest. OK, so it's in Hungarian, but all you need to do is select which camera you want to view from the drop down list. Note that some are of other towns and cities in Hungary though - gives you an idea of what life is like outside the capital.

  • Webcam Budapest Chain Bridge The view here is on the Pest side of town looking out onto the Chain Bridge. Unfortunately, mostly you'll see the road running alongside the Danube, but at sunrise the view here is good.

  • Webcam Budapest Urania Cinema Now I don't know how uneasy you'll feel about tuning in to these. The webcams are all pointing to view the internal goings on at the Urania Cinema, halfway up Rakoczi Street (see location map). Personally it's a little spooky, but just the same as reality TV without all the unreal posing.

  • Polis WebCam Budapest - (Business Polytechnic School) Well this is actually a webcam into the Polytechnic Common Room. A bit spooky, but some people out there may be interested in this. So tune in and watch some real live Hungarians going about their business.
